Welcome to the web site of Martin Eccles, artist

My interest is in creating work in, or influenced by, natural habitats and materials. Using a variety of methods I create visual, three dimensional, textual or sound works. Birds are a favourite subject – On my local patch of Northumberland some sights can inspire me time and again – Lapwing on the mudflats; Common Eider on the sea. I also paint whilst away; when travelling the deal is different – I seldom get the same sort of time that I get at home and so painting is a much faster activity and of a whole range of more exotic subjects – Ibisbill; Bimaculated Lark.

The three dimensional pieces range from beach sculptures using found objects to pieces carved in a range of different woods (and the one in plaster) exploring the effects of replication, proximity and the impact on the viewer of the perceived relationships between the pieces.

I Hope you enjoy looking at the images. Many of the originals on the site are from field sketchbooks; if you should find a piece you are interested in purchasing then get in touch – I will gladly give you more detail and a price.
